Supporting Malaysian Indian Learning, Education & Sports (SMILES), a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme was launched by the GAB Foundation on September 18, 2008. It is aimed specifically at assisting the Malaysian Indian community.
The first initiative under SMILES will be the Total Immersion Camp (TIC), an intensive 21 day English proficiency programme that will provide students who are transiting from vernacular Tamil schools to mainstream secondary schools with the essential language skills they need to assimilate in this new environment.
Fund raising for the SMILES TIC Programme will be spearheaded by two of GAB’s key brands Tiger and Guinness through special fund raising nights in over nine retail outlets in the Klang Valley, Penang, Ipoh and Johore through the month of October. Whatever the outlets raised will be matched dollar for dollar by GAB and subsequently administered and donated to the Tamil Foundation through the GAB Foundation.
